Crane Watching: The Fascination of Migration – Evening Arrival of the „Birds of Joy“
As the days grow shorter, the post-mining landscape around Wanninchen transforms into one of the most important resting stops for the European crane migration. The Heinz Sielmann Nature Experience Center invites you to witness this breathtaking natural spectacle firsthand: the evening arrival of thousands of majestic cranes as they return to their roosting sites.
During the observation, nature enthusiasts of all ages will gain fascinating insights into the lives and behaviors of these iconic migratory birds. With the help of high-quality spotting scopes, we offer a unique view of the roosting areas on the far shore. Before the first crane calls echo across the horizon, we highly recommend visiting our interactive crane exhibition and exploring the outdoor grounds to fully immerse yourself in the experience. As the sun sets, the impressive descent of the birds into the safe waters of Lake Schlabendorf begins.
