The stadium was inaugurated in the spring of 1930. At this time there were 5,000 places. Due to the German landscape exhibition in 1995, the stadium was extensively modernised. The functional, social and hygienical facilities were reconstructed. A connection was built between the dressing rooms and the sports hall. The synthetic pitch was created. Lighting facilities and a car park were also included.
On April 15, 1997, after the FC Energie Cottbus made it through to the German Semi Cup Final, the 18,000 Lux floodlight started working.
In April 2002 the construction of the stadium's new east grandstand started. Now having a second grandstand in the stadium it is a start of a new era for FC Energie Cottbus. This east grandstand with two storeys contains additional 2,800 seats and 5,500 standing rooms. For more information, and for photographs of the building stages, please visit the club's homepage.
Now the stadium of the FC Energie Cottbus can hold 20,000 football fans.
