This school is located in the Sportzentrum, near the Madlow lake for bathing. It is a sport-accentuated school with a "gymnasiale Oberstufe" (this means that pupils can do their A-level). This diploma can be taken in the 13th class. Alternatively, a pupil can take an examination after the 10th class. The pupils in classes 11-13 are split into ability groups.
15 different sports are represented here. The school specialises in 6 of them: athletics, gymnastics, cycling, handball, football and table tennis. Boxing has got an extra status. In general, the pupils at the sport school have very suitable training conditions as they are able to use the sport centre facilities.
Many pupils come to Cottbus from other towns or provinces to learn and train here. The "Haus der Athleten" with its modern equipped double-bed rooms is their home. At this boarding school the pupils from the 7th to 13th class are parented around the clock.
