It is dedicated to the famous artist born in 1798 and son of Cottbus. Carl Blechen counted to the most important painters of the German realism.
Developed on the eastern side of the Spree river in the 1930s, its rare trees and carefully selected shrubbery make it a gardening treasure. Its bank promenade created in 1934/35 has continued to flow through linking to the "Rosenufer" which runs to south and is now known as Ludwig-Leichhardt-Allee.
The Franz Mehring bridge, once Pückler bridge, developed in connection with the building of the diesel-electric power station in 1926/27. At that time the "Blue bridge" and the bridge at the power station were built with it over the trenches.
